CERN announced today that they have restored the first ‘URL’ to it’s former glory. While I think the intent is to restore the first ‘page’, there is a glitch in The Matrix.
I happen to have a NeXTstation Color with WorldWideWeb 0.16, which I believe to be the first public release of the famous WorldWideWeb client. It wants to connect to ‘cernvax.cern.ch’. While one could get around this with some /etc/hosts manipulation, it would be fun for CERN to bring back this subdomain as well.
Below: A screenshot of a sad WorldWideWeb.app unable to phone home.
Update: Yes, it appears my clock is a bit off on the NeXT. The poor thing is ancient.
